MIKA'S
BOOK
All Things At Once
August 2009 Dear Reader,
When I met Mika Brzezinski for the first time last year, I was absolutely blown away. Anyone who watches her every weekday on Morning Joe or listens to her daily radio show with Joe Scarborough already knows she’s fiery, opinionated, and scary smart: in short, a publicist’s dream.
It was refreshing to learn that Mika—whom Lesley Stahl recently named one of media’s rising stars and who, as the daughter of former National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski, grew up playing in the White House—is as charming and down-to-earth as she appears on TV. But what struck me the most was her candor about the hard lessons she has faced along the path to her current success.
Yes, she’s in a fantastic spot with her career and family today, but this hasn’t always been the case…and getting here hasn’t been easy. All Things At Once is the story of this journey—and Mika is the first to admit that she has struggled to achieve work/life balance and made mistakes along the way. She has had to learn, painfully at times, that often the best way to move forward is to have the good sense to know when to take a step back.
Particularly now, when many of us are forced to reassess our priorities either because we’ve lost jobs in the current economic downturn, or because we feel forced to choose between work and family, Mika’s honest message is a breath of much-needed fresh air.
